TOPEKA – Governor Jeff Colyer, M.D., has proclaimed the week of October 7 – 13 as “Minority Enterprise Development Week.” The week will serve as a reminder of the many contributions and achievements of minority- and women-owned businesses in the state of Kansas.

Minority Enterprise Development Week celebrates the vital role minority and women businesses play in the Kansas economy, recognizes the outstanding civic and social leadership shown by women and minority entrepreneurs, and encourages the growth of minority- and women-owned businesses across the state.

“This week offers us the opportunity to honor the achievements and great contribution of minority- and women-owned businesses in Kansas,” said Governor Jeff Colyer, M.D. “It’s important to recognize that these businesses make Kansas a better place by giving back to their communities, creating jobs, and improving the lives of our citizens.”

The week will be capped off with the 34th Annual Minority and Women Business Awards Luncheon, taking place in the Maner Conference center of the Capital Plaza Hotel in Topeka on October 11. The event will recognize companies owned by women or minorities, plus a group of individuals or companies who have exceled in their support of these kinds of businesses and their efforts to create new opportunities.
