History Makers: The Future is Now (For Rural Museums)

History Makers: The Future is Now offers rural museums a free, year-long opportunity to explore strategic planning and doing. Led by a small museums consultant, the program supports capacity building, resiliency, and statewide connections. Inspired by America’s 250th, it recognizes the role of local history in shaping national narratives.

Five museums will be selected in 2026; a second round begins in 2027. Participants will collaborate with local economic or tourism partners and receive $2,500 upon completion. Travel stipends are included.

Supported in part by a 2025 grant from The Patterson Family Foundation.
