Emergency Historic Economic Asset Lifeline (E-HEAL) Grant<\/h1>\n\n\n\n

Emergency Historic Economic Asset Lifeline (E-HEAL) grants were established to help rural downtown buildings avoid likely demolition or collapse and return to productive use as spaces for new or expanding businesses, childcare facilities, housing, arts and cultural venues, or entrepreneurial ventures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In 2023, the Kansas Legislature and Governor Laura Kelly approved an annual allocation of $500,000 for E-HEAL projects. The program operated on a rolling deadline to allow for rapid review and award decisions to stabilize buildings at immediate risk.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Program Overview (Now Closed)<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The E-HEAL program provided funding for buildings at risk of imminent loss, causing damage to nearby downtown structures, or significantly damaged by fire, storms, wind, or similar events. Eligible communities could receive up to $100,000 in grant funding, with a required 1:1 cash match (e.g., a $100,000 match for a $100,000 grant award). In cases where multiple buildings were affected by a single event, a city or local organization could apply for the full amount to address more than one structure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
