Broadband Equity Access and Deployment (BEAD) & Digital Equity Act (DEA) Planning Updates

Kansas Office of Broadband Development is committed to sharing our work and process as we create the five year plans to support the requirements of Broadband Equity Access and Deployment and Digital Equity Act. These programs were created as part of the bi-partisan Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act. Historic amounts of funding will come to Kansans to help bridge the digital divide. You will find information on current activities and opportunities to engage. Please join us in sharing and supporting our mission of #ConnectingAllKansans.

Current timeline and plan includes the following:

  • Engagement – ongoing
  • Asset Mapping – ramping up
  • Mission & Vision – ramping up
  • Plan creation – target June 30
  • Public comment – target July 1
  • Submit to National Telecommunications and Information Administration for approval – target August 8
  • Funds disbursed to Kansas – target Winter 2023
  • Grant program guidance – 2024

Kansas Broadband Roadshow – Ongoing

  • The Roadshow sessions are for the citizens of Kansas to express their broadband needs, share their concerns, and discuss what training, device, or affordability challenges they may be experiencing. We are scheduling closed sessions for providers to discuss our BEAD and Digital Equity Plans and to share the key role that you will play as providers to the state and our citizens.
