Justicia, Inc. was established in 1970, became non-profit 501 (c)(3) in 1972 whose basic mission is “Arts and Education”. The Ballet Folklorico de Topeka is our Oldest Program celebrating its 45th year. Justicia, Inc. has since inception had various educational programs and partnerships. These included 2 Aging Institutes, Women Awareness, Immigration legal informational venues, English as a Second Language, Migrant Education with state of Kansas Education and this year Citizenship prep classes. The Ballet Folklorico de Topeka is a member of La Asociacion Nacional de Grupos Folkloricos {ANGF}, a 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to the research, preservation, presentation and education of indigenous and mestizo culture as well as other related folklore within the realm of dance, music and the visual arts. ANGF formed as a united international association to serve as a voice for the promotion and preservation of Mexican Folklore & Traditions. Ballet Folklorico de Topeka has been associated since ANGF’s inception, our director elected to first board of directors and in 1979, elected ANGF’s President in Pueblo, Mexico. The Ballet Folklorico de Topeka has past history as a Kansas Touring Company, maintains a studio in the NOTO Arts District and performs year round with youth and adult participants. Program venues vary by event as do presentations. Membership is open for youth and adult.

Public Performance/Exhibition Information

Program venues vary by event as do the presentations. These include: short programs, folklorico dance workshops, school demonstrations, stage presentations, Lecture with costumes and or dance demonstration, family celebrations, festivals and community events. Special stage presentations may include dances with Mariachi’s or other Latin based musical groups. The Ballet had a Mother’s Day Celebration May 9th at the Topeka Performing Arts Center, a full program with six regions of dance from Mexico, Donated June 19th a short program for a Juneteenth event in East Topeka on an out door stage and June 26th, performed at St Johns Catholic Church, Fiesta in Lawrence, Kansas. Corazon Mestizos and Baile’s De Mi Tierra are two program titles to be used for Stage presentations. Dance presentations capture the various influences on the indigenous Indians of Mexico by European countries, Africa, Religious orders, in the music, instruments, dress and dance styles. The BFDT has a vast repertoire of approximately 22 regions or States of Mexico from which to choose to present along with a dance drama for special celebrations.

Program Fee

The Ballet Folklorico basic costs vary as to type of program requested within 50 miles of Topeka and includes transportation. Venues greater than 50 miles, Contract organization to cover transportation fees ( busing cost ) for Dancer’s. Additional transportation fee to include overnight lodging as may be required. BFDT PROGRAMS: Stage presentation : Corazon Mestizo or Baile’s De Mi Tierra [ 90 min with intermission ]
