April Spicer is a visual artist living in Marysville, KS. After teaching high school and junior high art for 16 years, April has now painted full time for around six years. These past few years, she has very much come to enjoy creating public art and have completed many murals. She also creates fine art oil paintings of automotive art and custom commissions of all kinds. She prefers to work large and oil paintings have been as large as 48″×76″ and her largest mural to date is 19’x74′. She has experience in spraying murals and brushwork. She has been a part of the implementation of Marysville’s “Black Squirrels on Parade” and she painted 12 of the 51 five-foot squirrel statues adorning Marysville (known as Black Squirrel City).
Murals tend to be a collaborative effort in the planning of the design, with input from the community or sponsoring group or individuals. Design work is usually a back-and-forth effort from all parties until a final approval is satisfied. Wall prep can be done ahead of my painting or included in the quote. April uses high quality artist acrylic mural paint, Nova Color. Final varnish is optional.
Murals can be a collaborative effort if desired, including different age groups in the painting application. She could present about the process from start to finish.
Lift or scaffolding must be acquired by client, if needed.
Educational activities would be determined by the nature of the mural. She has experience working with kids from kindergarten age to high school seniors.
