Brickmob has worked with the public on multiple murals. Their level of involvement ranged from guiding the public with on-site artists, paint-by-numbers, and even conceptualizing new murals through public engagement.
They can teach about mural creation, screen printing and design. They have also spoken at quite a few forums about being a successful small business as well as design forums.
How their process works for our commissioned murals:
They meet with the client to figure out all the details and work up a cost estimate for them based namely on square footage and the level of detail in the art but also includes required wall prep work, location, timeframe, etc. The mural art design info is then given to the crew of artists once a budget is approved and a deposit is secured. All Brickmob artists that are interested will then work up concepts. If there are multiple concepts, the client gets to decide which you like and offer feedback on any suggestions for modification. The chosen artist(s) will then finalize the piece, and the client receives a mockup that shows the art digitally on their wall. Their standard art development time is 2-4 weeks, depending on revisions. Their cost is all inclusive and covers all painting materials, artist fees, man hours, travel, etc. Typically, they start the cost estimate at 10 per square foot and evolve the cost up or down as needed. The designing artists(s) get a portion of the commission total and all of their painters earn a minimum of $15 per hour. If the project is finished quicker than was originally estimated, the remaining proceeds are split equally between all the painters to increase their hourly wages. Brickmob also offers discounts for non-profits and social betterment programs.
