The Regional Director represents the Kansas Department of Commerce in the Kansas City Metro area, focusing on business retention, expansion, and community development. This role involves advising businesses and local partners on state and federal programs, financing options, and development resources. The Director collaborates with community and business leaders to drive growth, connect projects with resources, and enhance regional economic vitality while representing the agency at key events and maintaining strong partnerships with public and private stakeholders.

Responsibilities:

  • Maintains current knowledge of the state’s diverse and complex business and community development programs, as well as state and federal financing options, to effectively communicate program opportunities, benefits, and application processes to businesses and community partners.

Resumen del puesto:

The Deputy Director of AJLA–TS serves as a key advisor to the Director, providing strategic leadership in fiscal management, operations, and business planning. This position drives financial and long-range planning, budgeting, and forecasting to support agency goals and new product initiatives. The Deputy Director oversees daily business and administrative operations, ensuring alignment with state and agency fiscal guidelines. As a member of the executive leadership team, this role contributes to strategic decision-making, revenue development, and governance efforts, while promoting operational efficiency and sustainable growth for AJLA–TS.

Responsibilities:

  • Serves as key internal advisor to the Director regarding fiscal, operations, and day-to-day business by assisting in the development of annual, short-term, and long-term business plans, identifying major growth and new product initiatives, and forecasting of costs/revenues.
  • Drives fiscal and long-range planning efforts, financial planning, forecasting, budgeting, and management, and enables clear analysis of business models and opportunities for AJLA–TS corresponding with the business plans.
  • Provides and manages all financial operations for AJLA–TS by creating and processing all financial items, including prior authorizations, encumbrances, vouchers, etc.

This position will plan, design, organize, and direct all maintenance and building services of the agency.  Prepare various financial and special reports, provide full range, direct supervision to staff, approve, amend, or reject detailed plans and procedures proposed by managers of Workforce Centers and Information Technology staff for any given project, and provide the necessary resources and information to complete any given project.

Responsibilities:

  • Plans, designs, organizes, and directs all maintenance and building services of the agency using the skills of professional, paraprofessional, administrative, and technical personnel. 
  • Prepares various statistical, financial, and special reports for projects for future reference when projects are completed. 
  • Provides full range, direct supervision to staff. 
  • Establishes, evaluates, and revises goals and objectives for operations and delivery of services. 
  • Approves, amends, or rejects detailed plans and procedures proposed by managers of Workforce Centers and Information Technology staff for any given project and provides the necessary resources and information to do any given project. 
  • Serves as the project leader for special projects given to building services by all divisions. 
  • Serves as the chief liaison with Division of Architectural services and contractors to ensure that all designs presented meet the agency’s current needs and anticipated future needs. 
  • Exercises limited authority delegated by all divisions to make decisions regarding physical plants for existing or new buildings, whether owned or leased spaces. 
  • Monitors the financial status of given projects, recommends increases or decreases in spending in given areas, and programs.
  • Establishes procedures and recommends policies in the following areas: building maintenance (11 agency-owned buildings), mail and shipping services, and building leases/subleases (21 leased offices). Plans and directs staff or contractors in the provision of services for the entire agency in these areas. 

Pay Range: $26.00 to $29.61 hourly

Resumen del puesto:

This position is responsible for auditing and approving all agency receivables and payables to ensure compliance with state regulations, contracts, and payment terms. The role prepares weekly reports for fiscal review, assists the Procurement Officer with requisitions and purchase orders, and manages encumbrance entries in SMART to ensure fiscal obligations are met. The position also coordinates data collection for special reports, including fiscal year-end and annual encumbrance reviews, and continuously develops knowledge of federal and state fiscal policies to ensure compliance in all agency financial transactions.

Responsibilities:

  • Audits and approves all agency receivables and payables daily.
  • Ensures compliance with state regulations, contracts and payment terms
  • Prepares weekly agency pending inter-fund and P-card transaction report for Fiscal unit review
  • Assists the Procurement Officer with entering required requisitions and purchase orders for contract, lease, and grant encumbrances.
  • Works with other fiscal and agency staff to determine fiscal year-end obligations and enters necessary encumbrance documents in SMART to ensure fiscal commitments are covered.
  • Coordinates the gathering of data for the preparation of special reports or activities such as fiscal year end closing, annual encumbrance review.

Pay Range: $28.00 to $30.00 hourly

The coordinator develops and distributes instructional materials, guides, manuals, and online resources to support training efforts for KANSASWORKS.com and KSTrain. Additionally, the role provides backup assistance for KANSASWORKS.com help desk operations as needed.

Responsibilities:

  • Serves as program coordinator for all statewide training for workforce services including but not limited to KANSASWORKS.com applications and Case Management.
  • Manages the full range of professional development activities for the Workforce Services Division. Develops, directs, plans and evaluates training programs or activities to meet external customer or internal employee objectives.
  • Creates, maintains and disseminates instructor guides, handouts, visual aids, manuals, online tutorials, and other resources/reference materials to further support training efforts for both KANSASWORKS.com and KSTrain.
  • Provides assistance on a back-up capacity to the KANSASWORKS.com Customer Service Representative on KANSASWORKS.com help desk related issues.

Pay Range: $22.16 to $25.68 hourly

Veteran Workforce Services Specialist–Great Bend, KS-217630

Resumen del puesto:

The Veterans Workforce Services Specialist provides case management to assist veterans and other eligible job seekers in achieving employment goals. Delivers targeted services to Unemployment Insurance claimants at risk of exhausting benefits. Conducts outreach to identify and engage eligible veterans, maintains a presence at workforce events, and serves as a liaison with employers to promote and expand the use of Workforce Center services and programs.

Responsibilities:

  • Provides overview of Workforce services to customers
  • Performs detailed intake and comprehensive assessment interviews to determine job seeker’s education, interests, work history, barriers to employment, economic and family status, and career goals
  • Assists customers with job searches, resume and cover letter preparation, completing applications for employment, holds mock interviews with customers, and educates customer on interviewing techniques
  • Provides customers information about program services, job requirements, occupational opportunities, and training programs and makes referrals to appropriate partner services
  • Maintains electronic case file in KANSASWORKS.com for each participant in accordance with federal and state policies, procedures, regulations and guidelines
  • Provides case management services for Unemployment Insurance claimants identified as likely to exhaust benefits
  • Conducts outreach activities, for the purpose of locating, identifying and seeking referrals of eligible veterans
