Lindsey Kernodle

Lindsey Kernodle has a passion for public art and how it engages her community. Starting off her career as an artist at the Sedgwick County Zoo, she developed a love of art that communicates stories in public spaces. She dives deep into understanding the culture and history of her piece’s subject matter, finding joy in the process of learning and discovery, and translating stories into visual representations. Her work includes designing the Wichita Public Library’s “Book Bus,” painting a dozen murals across Kansas, designing multiple vinyl murals for Walmart entryways, and undertaking an upcoming mural for the 2026 Transit Hub in Delano. Her focus is always to be responsive to the community and enhance the daily experience of those who are near the artwork every day.

This has ranged from going to district meetings and getting public feedback on designs, incorporating new ideas that as an outsider I might not know of, to hiring community members to help execute painting the mural together. She is passionate about widening the circle of who is included in the public art world, and loves mentoring younger artists in the area and encouraging them that it’s achievable by showing them how it’s done.

She is open to all types of indoor and outdoor walls for murals. Certain situations might require the additional rental of scissor or bucket lifts, but she is always up for arranging those rentals to make that happen.

She really aims to listen to the needs and goals of the client when collaborating them on the design. When creating a mural for a juvenile detention center her goal was to create somewhere calming and beautiful while when working with a small Italian food restaurant she created something lively and playful and showing the familial history that went into the small business. All clients are provided full mockups so that they know exactly what to expect when I get into the execution phase.
