Paul Alexander

Paul Alexander is an artist with over 30 years of experience. He has experience in various mediums of art from sculptures, airbrushing, faux finishing, hand painted and mosaic murals, jewelry design and creation, 3D collages, drawings and painted visual symphonies. He was classically trained through the study of anatomy by George Sotos at the Drawing Workshop in Chicago for 15+ years. He is educated in the Munsell color system. His approach to murals has been through research, interview, and immersion in the community in which the installation will take place.

He enjoys teaching. He has taught sculpture, drawing, and anatomy for middle school and adult classes at the Salina Art Center Warehouse in Kansas. He also taught private drawing classes online during 2020. An art workshop could be assembled to teach select participants to bring the creative concept and execution of a mural to life. This would include narrowing down subject matter, timeline, needed materials, inspection of site of art installation, and budget. Would then create groups that would be matched to their strengths and potential for a project.

Design /drawing of mural fee: $50 an hour (generally 3 hours). Changes to drawing are at the same rate. If hired, this price is included in total mural cost. – Condition of wall surface? (BAD) may need power washing fee, over 10 feet high will need local scaffold or lift fee. (Primer is a must.)

Travel fee: IRS 2025 mileage standard. $.70 per mile. – Lodging fee: negotiable.

Material fee: Depends on size, condition of wall and details (How many colors on wall? ) – Clear coat or anti graffiti coat fee

Painting fee: $35 -$45 a square foot on walls. Indoor ceilings are more and height will be a factor as well. ALL MURALS ARE CLASSICALLY HAND DRAWN AND HAND PAINTED.

For heights over 10 feet, a lift or scaffold would be needed on safe surface. I generally stay under 16 feet (depending on weather and the terrain).

In Spring 2025, he created a care home mural in Abilene, KS. During the process, many of the families would bring their loved ones out to see the progress of the mural. Quite a few visited every day. Some sat and watched for quite a while, cars honked passing by, even the newspaper folks came out to photograph the art mural and Paul together. The job was picked by a woman named Sue who led a committee. They all had slightly different ideas, many of them very conservative, but after a few edits, Paul produced a drawing they all liked and got to work. Sue did her homework and had a file on me, including all my photos from the Kansas Public Art & Muralist Roster. Paul had no idea how many people he was going to meet because of this job. They told Paul it was the 16th mural in Abilene. It was great to see so many people so curious and excited by the process, and they loved the finished product!
