Rosemary started life as a storyteller in first grade when she fell on the floor pretending to faint to get out of class for the day. The stories have gotten bigger and bigger ever since.
For 23 years she taught elementary school in Topeka, Kansas. At one point in her teaching career, she took a storytelling workshop in Kansas City. She learned a folktale and tried it out on first graders. They loved it and wanted more stories. As time went by, she found that those stories, told orally, stimulated their interest in literature more than anything she had ever tried before. Soon she began to get requests to tell for summer reading programs and family fun nights.
Since then, Rosemary has developed a wide repertoire of original stories, songs and her own versions of folktales and literature-based stories. In the spring of 2000, she left teaching to become a full-time storyteller performing at: festivals, schools, libraries, museums and social gatherings. she’s performed in many states in the U.S. and in the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland.
Having taught for 23 years she’s become an expert at letting kids have fun without getting out of hand. With young children, she uses lots of music and audience participation. For older kids and adults, she has some great funny pieces, ghost stories and inspirational stories. She also composes music and brings her banjo along for a song or two.
