Acerca de

Alejandro Jon Sabillón is a multidisciplinary artist, DJ innovator, and native Mayan from San Pedro Sula, Honduras. Most of his work explores the wonders and mysteries at the frontiers of music, including the cultures and music of animal and digital minds, indigenous peoples, and natural landscapes usually expressed through the art of DJing. What sets him apart as a DJ is the uncommon understanding that DJing is not a technical skill but a soft one, blossoming forth from classically feminine traits such as emotional intelligence, flexibility, flow, and empathy. He holds a master’s degree from Berklee College of Music and was a showcase performer in Valencia, Spain. He has played 1000+ shows in dozens of cities across four continents and is the only person to receive an Ambassadorship from the United Nations specifically for his DJing. He is also the recipient of awards from the Andy Warhol Foundation, Fundació Palau de les Arts, and Future Music Forum Barcelona.

Descripción del programa principal

There are up to three components of the public program:

DJ Performance: A high-energy, interactive DJ performance showcasing a diverse range of musical styles, from classic hip-hop to cutting-edge electronic music. The performance will feature a mix of original tracks, remixes, mashups, and live improvisation, creating a unique and unforgettable experience for the audience.

Community Mixtape: A collaborative community project where participants are invited to share their favorite songs and stories. Sabillón collects these ahead of time and use these submissions to create a custom mixtape that reflects the unique identity and culture of the community. The mixtape will be shared with the community through a public listening event or online platform.

Guest DJ: One or two local community members who attended the DJ workshop earlier in the day or week will get to DJ alongside Sabillón on stage for the first time in front of a live audience. This creates an unforgettable experience for the new DJ and hopefully encourages them to continue their DJ journey.

Tasa del programa

Primary Performance Fee: $1,500 – $3,000, depending on the length of the performance, travel expenses, and additional services (e.g., sound equipment, technical support).

Educational and/or Community Activity Fees: $500 – $1,500 per workshop or presentation, depending on the duration, complexity, and number of participants.

Travel and Lodging: Reimbursed at a standard rate or provided by the host organization.

Educational/Community Activity Information

Sabillón’s workshops are designed to be accessible to people of all ages and backgrounds, regardless of their prior experience with music or technology. He incorporates interactive elements, hands-on activities, and engaging discussions to foster a deeper understanding of music and its cultural significance. These interactive workshops are designed to introduce participants to the art and craft of DJing. These workshops will cover a range of topics, including music theory, beatmatching, mixing techniques, and creative DJing. There is an emphasis on the importance of self-expression, creativity, and community building through music. People who attend these workshops are often not who you typically find at DJ events, and Sabillón says that it brings him much joy to give these participants an opportunity that they would otherwise not have. Sabillón also likes to invite new DJs on stage with e later during the public performance for a quick set of their own using what they learned at the workshop!

Other Considerations

Sabillón is available for bookings throughout the year, with a preference for advance notice of at least two months. He is open to performing in various venues, including clubs, festivals, universities, and community centers. He is particularly interested in collaborating with marginalized communities and people not typically found behind the DJ decks.
