Evergy Energy Tip – September

Your Fall Energy Prep Checklist

As summer fades and cooler days start to roll in, September is the perfect time to hit reset on your home energy habits. Here is a simple checklist to get ahead of the season.

Take advantage of natural sunlight. The sunlight can be a free source of warmth, so open curtains during the day to let sunlight in and close them at night to help insulate windows.

Replace your air filter. This should be done every 1-3 months. A clean filter helps improve air flow, reduce allergens, and can help your system run more efficiently.

Seal up drafts. Add caulk or weatherstripping to leaky doors and windows to keep warm air in and heating costs down. According to the Department of Energy, it can save you up to 15% on energy used for heat.

Schedule a heating system check-up. Scheduling a professional HVAC tune-up will ensure everything is running safely and efficiently. And if your air conditioner struggled this summer, fall is a good time to replace it, while it’s neither too hot nor too cold outside. If you’re an Evergy customer, find out how our rebate can save you up to $1,000 on a new energy-efficient system.

Reverse your ceiling fans. Switch the direction to clockwise in the fall and winter to push warm air back down into the room.
