The Regional Director leads efforts to strengthen communities and local economies across Kansas by developing and implementing programs that support business retention, market growth, and community revitalization. This role serves as a key representative of the agency, building relationships and promoting initiatives at economic development meetings, events, and partnerships statewide.

Responsibilities:

  • Assists clients in identifying and utilizing local, state, federal, private, or public resources to advance their projects.
  • Advocates for stakeholders and promotes collaboration to support community and business development initiatives.
  • Communicates with entrepreneurs, company executives, and community leaders to support business retention and expansion efforts in Kansas.
  • Provides technical expertise and strategic guidance to in-state business prospects.

Pay Range: $68,000.00 to $74,000.00 annually

Work Schedule: Monday – Friday 8:00 am to 5:00 pm

The attorney provides legal counsel and support to agency leadership, divisions, and staff by identifying and analyzing legal and policy issues, conducting legal research, and preparing clear, well-reasoned memoranda and briefs. Reviews agency correspondence, policies, manuals, and proposed regulations for compliance with state and federal law, including WIOA and related regulations. Advises on legal risks, options, and outcomes to ensure agency operations comply with applicable laws. Evaluates legal and factual claims in administrative and judicial matters, represents the agency in hearings and proceedings, and participates in meetings, depositions, and trials as required.

Responsibilities:

  • Receives oral or written questions from other divisions working groups and employees of the agency or receives oral or written assignments from the Chief Counsel.

  • Provides legal counsel to various Divisions, Staff, agency administrative officials and field personnel to assure that Commerce and its operating units perform their respective duties in accordance with the law and also to aid in compliance with state laws, federal laws, the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) and other pertinent federal laws and regulations.

The Director of the Small Business Office provides strategic leadership to advance small business growth, entrepreneurship, and ecosystem development across Kansas. This role oversees the development and execution of programs aligned with the Kansas Department of Commerce’s economic development strategy; builds and maintains strong partnerships with public and private stakeholders; and represents the state at regional and national forums. The Director manages staff, budgets, and funding initiatives while evaluating program performance to ensure measurable impact and long-term support for startups, scale-ups, and business resilience.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement policies and initiatives that support small business growth, entrepreneurship, and ecosystem development in Kansas. 
  • Ensure alignment of Small Business Office initiatives with the Kansas Department of Commerce’s broader economic development strategy
  • Establish and maintain partnerships with Entrepreneurial Support Organizations (ESOs), business development entities, economic development agencies, and private sector stakeholders. 
  • Represent Small Business Office at state, regional, and national forums to advocate for Kansas small businesses and share best practices
  • Provide direct leadership to the Deputy Directors, the Business Development Project Manager, and additional personnel. 
  • Oversee the development, management, and execution of Small Business Office programs, ensuring projects are completed on time, within scope, and meet strategic objectives.
  • Oversee Small Business Office operational budget, ensuring responsible allocation of resources to maximize program impact.
  • Identify and secure funding sources, including state, federal, and private-sector grants, sponsorships, and partnerships.

Pay Range: $75,000.00 to $85,000.00 annually

Reemployment Navigator–Wichita–219033

ポジションの概要

This position involves technical work, interviewing clients to gather information necessary to determine potential eligibility for training programs, job referrals, and other workforce services. The Reemployment Navigator performs a variety of office duties that require knowledge of established procedures, basic math, and accurate record-keeping. 

The role requires effective communication skills, the ability to follow written and oral instructions, and strict adherence to state and federal employment laws and regulations. Strong organizational skills and the ability to work collaboratively with others are essential.

This position is located at the Wichita Workforce Center.

Responsibilities:

Veteran Workforce Services Specialist–Great Bend, KS-217630

The Veterans Workforce Services Specialist provides case management to assist veterans and other eligible job seekers in achieving employment goals. Delivers targeted services to Unemployment Insurance claimants at risk of exhausting benefits. Conducts outreach to identify and engage eligible veterans, maintains a presence at workforce events, and serves as a liaison with employers to promote and expand the use of Workforce Center services and programs.

Responsibilities:

  • Provides overview of Workforce services to customers
  • Performs detailed intake and comprehensive assessment interviews to determine job seeker’s education, interests, work history, barriers to employment, economic and family status, and career goals
  • Assists customers with job searches, resume and cover letter preparation, completing applications for employment, holds mock interviews with customers, and educates customer on interviewing techniques
  • Provides customers information about program services, job requirements, occupational opportunities, and training programs and makes referrals to appropriate partner services
  • Maintains electronic case file in KANSASWORKS.com for each participant in accordance with federal and state policies, procedures, regulations and guidelines
  • Provides case management services for Unemployment Insurance claimants identified as likely to exhaust benefits
  • Conducts outreach activities, for the purpose of locating, identifying and seeking referrals of eligible veterans
