Kansas Creative Arts Industries Commission Announces Professional Development Institute for Art Councils and Art Centers

Topeka, Kan. – The Kansas Creative Arts Industries Commission invites Kansas-area Arts Councils and Arts Centers to a conference on Wednesday, April 24 from 8:30 am -2pm in Lawrence, KS. The conference will feature speakers from national arts organizations including:

Topics include creative placemaking, artist residencies, rural arts policy, and civic practice. The event will also provide an opportunity to network with arts councils and centers from across the state.

ARTPLACE AMERICA (ARTPLACE) is a ten-year collaboration among several foundations, federal agencies, and financial institutions. We began our work as an organization in 2011 and will finish in 2020. Our mission is to position arts and culture as a core sector of community planning and development. The Center for Performance and Civic Practice believes that with the right approach, the same tools and capacities that artists use to make meaningful art can be utilized to transform systems and improve the impacts of government and community-driven efforts and programs. ‘Civic Practice’ refers to projects that bring artists into collaboration and co-design with community partners and local residents around a community-defined aspiration, challenge or vision.

About the Rural Policy Research Institute

The Rural Policy Research Institute (RUPRI) provides unbiased analysis and information on the challenges, needs, and opportunities facing rural America. RUPRI’s aim is to spur public dialog and help policymakers understand the rural impacts of public policies and programs. RUPRI was created in 1990 by a bipartisan group of US Senators, seeking to develop an external, nonpartisan policy research institution to address the rural differential impact of public policies and programs. RUPRI provides unbiased analysis and information on the challenges, needs and opportunities facing rural America. Currently housed in the College of Public Health at the University of Iowa, RUPRI’s research credibility and policy relevance derive from a collaborative research and policy analysis approach, which connects a select cadre of our nation’s leading scholars and practitioners, wherever located, to build teams with a common commitment to research excellence and policy and practice relevance. RUPRI seeks to assist policy makers to understand the rural impacts of public policies and programs and facilitates public dialogue regarding more innovative rural policy. About Professional Development Institutes 

Throughout FY19, KCAIC will institute an annual series of professional development events focused on arts organizations of related types and disciplines. These PDIs will provide meaningful leadership development from national leaders in their respective fields and foster peer networks that further develop specific communities of practice.
