ABOUT THE OWNER

Owner’s Name: Rhenda Whitworth

What is your background? My husband and I purchased the race track. He used to race and we both loved the sport. My husband also worked for his dad in the construction business and we bought the business from him. My husband passed away 6 years ago, but, with the help of my kids, we have kept both businesses going.

What inspired you to start your business? The love of the sport for dirt track racing and working as a family in both businesses.

What do you like about doing business in Kansas? I grew up in Kansas and I love the people.

What is your business philosophy/mission statement? To treat people how we want to be treated.

SERVICES

What sets your business apart from your competitors? We have big race specials throughout the year that attract drivers from 14 different states. Being in business this long has helped us with our reputation.

How is your business involved in your community? We buy all of our supplies locally within our community.

QUESTION & ANSWER SESSION

Why should your business be included in the minority & women business spotlight? I have proven to everyone that a woman can handle the responsibilities that a man can after the passing of my husband.

What was the biggest “win” in your business’ history? Humboldt Speedway has two of the biggest races with the most payout in the country: “King of America” and “Battle At The Bullring.”

What’s one valuable lesson you’ve learned that you would share with other business owners? If you put your mind and your heart into it, you can have a successful business.

Tell us an interesting and fun fact about your business. The Humboldt Speedway has had the same workers help out for the last 28 years, it is so much fun to work with all of them. We have made so many memories together. Our Track mascot is Ringo the Bull!
