How long have you been in business?
Since November 2015
What is your background?
I am both a maker/designer/artist and event producer.
What sets your business apart from your competitors?
We are a market highlighting high-end handmade products, specifically. We are the only juried market in Wichita. I draw inspiration from my start in Chicago, and travels to other big cities, and want to bring a big town event to our growing community in Wichita.
How is your business involved in your community?
In 2015 we started with just 8 vendors. Then we grew the next year to do 4 seasonal markets. By 2019, we were doing about 10-15 shows a year, partnering with other events, and averaging about 60 vendors per market! It started as a seedling idea, and grew into an amazing brand! We now feature makers not just from Wichita but also KC, Colorado, California, Nebraska, Texas, Oklahoma, Missouri, Georgia, Phoenix, and New York.
What is your business philosophy/mission statement?
We want to highlight unique, high-end, handmade goods! We are the biggest fan and advocate for all of our artisans in our roster! We also purposefully partner with local Wichita venues that we love to show off how cool our city is! (Public at the Brickyard, The Monarch, Norton’s Brewing Co, 86 Cold Press, etc.) With around 30% of our vendors each event NOT being a Wichita local, its important to show off how cool our growing city is.
Why should your business be included in the minority & women business spotlight?
Haute Handmade Pop Up Market was founded in 2015 by two female entrepreneurs, Genny Werth & Liv Grant! Liv currently produces the markets, solely.
What do you like about doing business in Kansas?
I love the opportunity to work on the ground floor of a growing art community.
What inspired you to start your business?
After being gone from Wichita for over ten years, I moved from Chicago back home. I felt that we needed a market that catered specifically to the high-end handmade goods and high-end clientele — and an event with a big city feel. I wanted to give Wichita something it hadn’t seen before… almost giving them what they didn’t even know they wanted yet! 🙂
What was the biggest “win” in your business’ history?
Growing this fast! And knowing so many talented people!
What’s one valuable lesson you’ve learned that you would share with other business owners?
Genuine connection with those you represent and your customers IS KEY!
Tell us an interesting and fun fact about your business.
I had no intention of this being more than a one time pop up of a handful of maker friends (back in 2015) // Also, HAUTE is symbolic of ‘Haute Couture’ meaning high fashion that originated in France in the early 1800’s. It represents high-end, hand
made and custom work
