Governor Kelly Announces Kansas Moving Forward with $451.7M High-Speed Internet Deployment Plan Governor Laura Kelly today announced federal approval of the state’s Broadband Equity Access and Deployment (BEAD) Initial Proposal Volume 2, providing an investment of more than $450 million to expand Kansas’ high-speed internet infrastructure. Manufacturing employs 165,000 people spanning all its industry sectors, which is 11.2% of total employment in Kansas. Kansas is one of only 28 Right-to-Work states with union membership at 8.7 percent – well below the national average. The state also ranks 6th lowest in the U.S. for worker compensation rates.

The public system of higher education within the State of Kansas includes four sectors: six state universities, one municipal university, 19 community colleges, and 7 technical colleges with awards of $638.5 million for research and development activity throughout the state. German-owned Reiloy USA is expanding its advanced manufacturing capabilities with plans to invest more than $20 million in a new building and machinery in Maize, Kansas. Reiloy USA President Joe Piccini said, “This expansion brings additional sophisticated and proprietary equipment and technology that will benefit customers throughout North and South Americas.”
