Evergy Energy Tip – May

Creative Ways to Save Energy

If you’re looking to save energy, just consider what you already have around the house! Here are a few creative ways to be more energy efficient.

  • Play a song while you take a shower. Pick a song, start your shower when the song starts, and finish it when the song ends to keep your shower brief.
  • Switch the rotation of your ceiling fan when the seasons change to save on air conditioning cost.In the summer, fans should rotate counterclockwise to lift warm air up and out of the room.  Remember – fans cool people, not rooms, so turn them off when you leave a room.
  • Utilize a smart thermostat. You can schedule your home’s temperature while you’re out and about, plus, your thermostat can “learn” to automatically set heating and cooling schedules based on how you’ve used the thermostat over time.
  • Vacuum your air intake vents regularly to remove any dust buildup. Just like you vacuum your floor, the vents need cleaning.  Also, make sure that furniture and other objects are not blocking airflow through the vents.

If you’re an Evergy customer and you have a compatible smart thermostat, enroll it in the Evergy Thermostat Program and earn a $100 reward. Don’t have a smart thermostat yet? Get a free or discounted one through Evergy.
