Applications Open for Second Cohort of Kansas Commerce Rural Champions Lieutenant Governor and Commerce Secretary David Toland today announced that the Office of Rural Prosperity has opened applications for the second cohort of Rural by Choice Champions. Governor Kelly Announces Kansas Moving Forward with $451.7M High-Speed Internet Deployment Plan Governor Laura Kelly today announced federal approval of the state’s Broadband Equity Access and Deployment (BEAD) Initial Proposal Volume 2, providing an investment of more than $450 million to expand Kansas’ high-speed internet infrastructure. Funding will be granted to areas that have been identified as underserved through a competitive application process that will begin in July. Sherry Rentfro joined Commerce in June of 2014 as Fiscal Analyst and became the Chief Fiscal Officer in February 2018.

Prior to Commerce, she worked for over 10 years managing the accounting and finances of a non-profit association that serves the telecommunications industry in Kansas. She earned a BBA in Finance from Washburn University and MBA from Baker University.
