Kansas Ranks Seventh for Fewest Government Restrictions

The Mercatus Center at George Mason University released version 2.0 of its research analyzing the volume of restrictions and requirements on individuals and businesses in each state’s regulatory code. Kansas ranked seventh among the states for the fewest number of restrictions and requirements, making it a low friction state to live and do business in relative to other states.

To capture this information, the Mercatus Center uses deep data analysis to find occurrences of words and phrases that prohibit or obligate activity. The top five most-highly regulated states have 3.75 to 5.65 more restrictions and requirements than Kansas.
