In recognition of the 80th anniversary of KANSAS! Magazine, Governor Laura Kelly recently proclaimed November 2025 as KANSAS! Magazine Month. The proclamation honors the magazine’s eight decades of celebrating the people, places, culture and beauty of Kansas.
“As we celebrate this milestone, we also honor the magazine’s enduring contribution to our rich history and the Kansas identity,” Lieutenant Governor and Secretary of Commerce David Toland said. “For generations, KANSAS! has inspired pride in our communities and showcased the best of who we are — hardworking, creative and deeply connected to our home.”
First released in 1945, the magazine is published by Kansas Tourism at the Kansas Department of Commerce and has become one of the longest-running state publications in the nation.
“For 80 years, KANSAS! has been the voice of our state’s pride,” Kansas Tourism Director Bridgette Jobe said. “Through powerful stories and stunning photography, the magazine invites readers to see Kansas in a bigger lens — and celebrates the people and places that makes our state so special.”
As part of the anniversary celebration, the Kansas Museum of History in Topeka is hosting a special exhibit, Celebrating KANSAS! — opening Saturday, November 22, and running through May 2026. The exhibit highlights the magazine’s evolution through the decades — showcasing original cover art, photographs, editorial features and artifacts that reflect how KANSAS! has documented life in the Sunflower State.
“This moment belongs to the readers and storytellers who have shared and expressed their love for Kansas through the magazine,” Published and Editor of KANSAS! Magazine Andrea Etzel said. “The magazine has captured the character, beauty and spirit of Kansas — and we’re honored to have that history recognized by Governor Kelly and Lieutenant Governor Toland.”
KANSAS! Magazine is published five times a year, with a special KANSAS! Kids issue released every January in celebration of Kansas Day. The magazine reaches thousands of subscribers and visitors annually through print and digital editions. The magazine’s website and social media channels continue to inspire new audiences to discover and explore Kansas.
Print and digital subscriptions are available year-round — and copies of each issue can be found on newsstands throughout the state.
