The Kansas City Chiefs originally were known as the Dallas Texans, when founded by sports pioneer Lamar Hunt in 1960 as a charter member of the American Football League (AFL). The franchise moved to Kansas City in 1963 and became known as the Kansas City Chiefs. The team currently competes in the West Division (AFC West) of the American Football Conference (AFC) in the National Football League (NFL). The team has won four Super Bowl titles, including three since the 2019 season (2019, 2022 and 2023).
The Kansas City Chiefs have aggressively pursued global growth as part of the NFL’s expansion efforts and have worked to raise the profile of the entire Kansas City region nationally and internationally. The fanbase is regularly referred to as “Chiefs Kingdom.” This has also been used to reference the six-state region that the team counts as its key fanbase states (Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska, Iowa, Oklahoma and Arkansas). Under the ownership of the Hunt family and the leadership of Chairman and CEO Clark Hunt, the core values of the club are to “Win with Character,” “Unite our Community,” “Inspire our Fans” and “Honor Tradition.” The Chiefs are deeply committed to the Kansas City community through numerous programs as well as the Hunt Family Foundation.
