Kansas awarded nearly $1 million from USDA to assist with rural digital divide The Kansas Office of Broadband Development (KOBD) has been awarded nearly $1 million from the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Rural Utilities Service through its new Broadband Technical Assistance (BTA) grant program. The $997,000 grant will fund pre-engineering design studies in six rural Kansas counties to help reduce costs and identify avoidable barriers as broadband is deployed there. Governor’s Exporter of the Year
Nomination Form

2024 marks the 36th year of this legacy award. In respect of both nominators and nominees, please review information below detailing the selection process for the Governor’s Exporter of the Year award, as well as the judging committee, the Kansas International Trade Coordinating Council (KITCC).

Selection Process

The Governor’s Exporter of the Year award is the highest honor for an exporting business in Kansas. The process from nomination to selection is eight months.

2024 timeline:

  • February 15: Nominations open
  • April 1: Nomination deadline
  • April 15: Company Data Questionnaire (CDQ) sent to the nominees
    • The CDQ contains 30 questions for the company to detail its export business.
  • May 15: Deadline to complete and return CDQ
  • May 21: KITCC selects finalists
  • May 30: Notification letters sent to all companies
  • August 15-30: KITCC visits on-site with finalist companies
  • September 4: Finalists conduct presentations at the Topeka Public Library
  • October: The award recipient will be announced at the annual awards banquet hosted by the Kansas Department of Commerce (location to be announced)

Honors of winning the Governor’s Exporter of the Year award:

  • The company will receive the Exporter of the Year trophy from the Governor at the annual awards banquet
  • The Governor will visit the award-recipient company to congratulate and celebrate their accomplishment
  • Invited to become a new member of the KITCC
Judging Committee – KITCC

The Kansas International Trade Coordinating Council (KITCC) is entrusted with handling the selection process for the Governor’s Exporter of the Year. The council consists of a diverse group of international business professionals, including past award recipient companies, as well as trade promotion specialists, trade facilitators and academics from business schools of higher education institutions across the state.

Working with the Kansas Department of Commerce, the KITCC meets several times in the year to review written applications, visit company sites and attend presentations prepared by finalist companies. This process is to ensure and identify the businesses that represent the best of exporting in Kansas by growing export sales, new international markets and pioneering innovative products.
