Virtual Job Fair to Highlight Hundreds of State Agency Opportunities Jobseekers are encouraged to attend the upcoming State of Kansas Agencies Virtual Job Fair from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 27. This month’s virtual fair, hosted by KANSASWORKS, will feature many exciting employment opportunities available across the state’s 98 government agencies. Currently, there are more than 700 vacancies across the state. Kansas Commerce Department Hires New International Director Lieutenant Governor and Secretary of Commerce David Toland announced today Laura Lombard has been named the agency’s new International Director. Lombard brings 15 years of experience in international relations and business development to the position, most recently serving as President and CEO of Kansas Global Trade Services in Wichita. Governor Kelly Announces Funding to Grow Small Business Exports Governor Laura Kelly today announced that the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) awarded $200,000 to the Kansas Department of Commerce to expand the state’s robust export sector, which hit an all-time high of $13.97 billion in 2022. The agency’s International Division oversees the administration of the State Trade Expansion Program (STEP) award, enabling eligible businesses to leverage these funds for conducting focused activities that promote export growth. Governor’s Exporter of the Year

Recognizing Exporting Excellence For More Than 30 Years

The Governor’s Exporter of the Year award has been given to a Kansas company for more than three decades. The award brings statewide recognition to companies for their exporting efforts and showcases companies as role models of exporting success in Kansas.  

The 2022 Exporter of the Year winner, Textron Aviation, is home to Beechcraft, Cessna, and Hawker brands. Textron has one of the most versatile and comprehensive aviation product portfolios in the world, providing customers with more than 250,000 aircraft in over 170 countries. 

Other finalists for the Exporter of the Year award include Industrial Accessories Company (IAC) in Mission and DataLocker in Overland Park.

Nomination Award Selection Process

PROCESS TIMELINE

March 1 – April 15 – Nomination period.

April 15 – Company Data Questionnaire sent to nominated businesses.

May 20 – Deadline for Company Data Questionnaire to be completed.

June 14 – Finalists selected.

June 15 – 30 – Finalist company visits

August – Finalists presentations in Topeka.

October – Winner announced at the To The Star award dinner

REQUIREMENTS

• A company must currently operate in and export from Kansas to be eligible for the award.

• Companies must be in good standing with the state.

• There are no restrictions on who may nominate a company for the award.

• A company can self nominate.
