Governor Kelly Announces Kansas Moving Forward with $451.7M High-Speed Internet Deployment Plan Governor Laura Kelly today announced federal approval of the state’s Broadband Equity Access and Deployment (BEAD) Initial Proposal Volume 2, providing an investment of more than $450 million to expand Kansas’ high-speed internet infrastructure. NextGen Under 30 Ambassador to Kansas

Make a difference

Each year the Kansas Department of Commerce will select a NextGen Under 30 awardee to serve as the Ambassador of the year. The NextGen Under 30 Ambassador receives a yearlong opportunity to serve as ambassador on behalf of the Department of Commerce.

The 2024 Ambassador will have the opportunity to engage and learn about the work of Commerce throughout the year through a variety of functions. They will engage the NextGen Under 30 2023 Class via LinkedIn and social media on a regular basis (weekly, monthly, or as deemed appropriate). The goal will be to reshare information from Commerce, share leadership tips, highlight other Class of 2023 awardees, and further topics aimed at the development of young professionals. The expected time commitment is to be no more than 3-5 hours per month.  

Program Benefits

VIP pass to signature Commerce events during the year based on personal interest and availability of the selected Ambassador.  Invites to special events such as groundbreakings, ribbon cuttings, awards banquets, or other Commerce events.

Opportunity to participate in monthly engagement activities with various Commerce teams such as Broadband, Community Development, Minority and Women Owned Business, Business Development, International Business Development, Workforce Services, or other areas of interest. 

The individual selected will have a unique opportunity to gain valuable skills and develop broadened professional network. The ambassador will contribute to the active engagement of young professionals across the state, while receiving public recognition for the service and contribution to shaping the future leadership of the state.

9.29.23 – Self-nomination closes

10.1.23 – 10.5.23 – Deliberation Period and Candidate Interviews

10.6.23 – Nominated person contacted by phone and email.  

10.20.23 – Certificate presented to individual by Lieutenant Governor David Toland at the Awards Banquet

Nomination: This will be a self-nomination process via a short application form on the Commerce website. 

  1. Summarize who you are and what you do
  2. Why do you want to serve as the 2024 NextGen Under 30 Ambassador?
  3. What are your personal leadership development goals?
  4. How would you creatively engage the class of 2023 over the next year?
Awardee

Selection will be publicly recognized during the banquet. Awardee will present a short speech about who they are and their commitment to fostering collaboration through their leadership among the group over the next year.
