As the owner of Shine On Music LLC, Karla Bauer is deeply committed to creating meaningful changes through her work as a musician and teaching artist. She has united her two greatest passions: composing and performing her original music and providing access to high-quality music programs for children in underserved and rural communities. Karla’s mission is to provide artistic opportunities to children in these targeted areas while also teaching them how to stay safe in the digital world.

Shine On Music Community Outreach Concert

The Shine On Music Community Outreach Concert features Karla performing songs from her gospel and jazz albums, accompanied by four talented Kansas City jazz musicians. As a grand finale, students will have the exciting opportunity to join Karla on stage, performing before an enthusiastic audience of their family and friends. During rehearsals, children will not only develop their performance skills but also foster a sense of accountability, boost their self-esteem, and experience the joy of performing music to a supportive community.

Shine On Music Storytime – “Be Still – A Mother’s Lullaby”

The Shine On Music Storytime event will feature Karla reading her award-winning children’s lullaby book, Be Still: A Mother’s Lullaby. She will teach the children the lullaby song, accompanied by hand actions, for an engaging and fun sing-along. Karla will also address the children and their caregivers about the importance of staying safe in a digital world, raising awareness of this critical issue. The event will include a Q&A time, providing an opportunity for Karla and the children to connect and learn more about each other. Finally, Karla will inspire the children by sharing the message that no matter where they grow up, whether in a big city or a small town, they can always follow their dreams. She will emphasize that everyone has a unique gift or talent, whether it’s excelling in sports, singing, being a kind friend, or simply making others laugh.

The Shine On Music program(s) can be produced with little effort and a small budget.

Shine On Music Storytime – showcases a different writing style by blending storytelling with music. Together, these programs provide a fun, engaging, and educational experience that uplifts the children, their families, and those within the community.

Shine On Music Internet Safety Workshop – equips children and their caregivers with vital knowledge and awareness to navigate the digital world safely, protecting them from harm and potential life-threatening situations.

Shine On Music Community Outreach Concert

The Shine On Music Community Outreach Concert consists of Karla performing songs from her gospel/jazz albums with four highly skilled Kansas City jazz musicians accompanying. Shine On Music Internet Safety Workshop

Karla adapts each workshop to the children’s age group while providing the children a safe environment to share in the discussion.

The Shine On Music Internet Safety Workshop equips children and their caregivers with vital knowledge and awareness to navigate the digital world safely, protecting them from harm and potential life-threatening situations. This workshop introduces children to various scenarios, helping them make informed decisions and confidently manage their online interactions. Additionally, the workshop provides clear guidance on how children should respond if they ever encounter these situations.

Awareness of Internet Safety: helping the child to recognize and avoid interactions with online predators reduces the risk of the child engaging with those individuals trying to impose harm on the child, as they often pose as a peer or trustworthy person.

Education on Internet Safety – prevents child abduction by equipping the child with the tools to recognize and avoid online predators. These predators often disguise themselves as peers, attempting to lure the child into chat rooms, gaming platforms, or social media chats. Such interactions can escalate to dangerous situations, including the potential abduction of a child when the predator convinces them to meet at a specified location. Education empowers the child to make safer choices and protect themselves from these risks.

Protection of Personal Information: the child will have better control over who has access to their online presence and personal information, such as their home address, phone number, school, and places they visit, from those who are trying to harm them. 

Prevention of Exposure to Inappropriate Content: online safety practices help shield the child from content that is not suitable for their age, such as violence, explicit material, and other disturbing content.

Encourages Responsible Online Behavior: understanding the importance of internet safety encourages the child to behave responsibly and respectfully online, thereby fostering a positive digital footprint that will accompany them throughout their lives.

Promotes Digital Literacy: understanding internet safety is an essential part of digital literacy. It equips the child with the skills to use technology responsibly and effectively, ensuring their activities in the digital world remain secure and uncompromised.
