The Rural Opportunity Zones (ROZ) program was established by the Kansas Legislature in 2011 to encourage individuals to live and work in rural Kansas. The program offered two incentives to qualifying individuals: student loan repayment assistance administered by the Kansas Department of Commerce and a Kansas income tax credit administered by the Kansas Department of Revenue.
The ROZ Student Loan Repayment Program provided up to $15,000 in student loan repayment assistance over five years through partnerships between the State of Kansas and participating local sponsors.
The Student Loan Repayment Program closed to new applicants on June 30, 2026. Existing participants may continue through their established participation period, subject to program requirements and available funding.
This page provides resources for current ROZ Student Loan Repayment participants and sponsors.
