LENEXA — Governor Jeff Colyer and Mayor Michael Boehm today joined Kiewit to officially break ground on a new campus at the Lenexa City Center. The roughly $100 million project includes a new six-story building along with renovations to the existing property at 8900 Renner Blvd.

The new Kiewit campus will consolidate several local offices and strategically positions the company for future growth. While the Lenexa office has long served as a leader in designing and constructing power generation facilities throughout North America, it has substantially increased its work in the power delivery and industrial markets. Kiewit has also significantly enhanced its engineering capabilities, in which robust constructability standards help ensure on-time, on-budget project delivery.

“Throughout our company’s 130-year history, we have consistently and successfully adapted to meet the needs of the engineering and construction industry. Our talented, world-class employees, our approach to construction-driven engineering and our ability to deploy innovative technology sets Kiewit apart,” said Tom Shelby, president of Kiewit Energy Group Inc. “As we look to the future, we are thrilled to expand our footprint in Lenexa and are appreciative of the support provided by the City of Lenexa and State of Kansas.”

“Kiewit has been an important part of the Lenexa community for the past 20 years,” said Governor Jeff Colyer, M.D. “We are happy that they have chosen to continue their growth here in Kansas, and we look forward to our ongoing partnership with them in the future.”

When complete in January 2020, the campus will have a combined 385,000 square feet of office space to accommodate approximately 1,300 employees. Its location in the Lenexa City Center offers employees a wide range of amenities within walking distance.

“Our longstanding vision for the Lenexa City Center has been to create a vibrant, mixed-use neighborhood where residents can live and work,” said Mayor Boehm. “We are excited to welcome Kiewit to the community.”
