Prepare Your Home for Warmer Weather
Warmer weather is around the corner! To keep your home comfortable as the temperatures heat up, now is the time to prepare. Here is a list of things you can do right now.
- Clean your outdoor AC unit. Your air conditioning unit will operate better if it has plenty of room to breathe, so remove dirt, leaves and debris, and trim plants back at least two feet from the unit to allow optimal airflow.
- Get an annual AC tune up. Regular maintenance significantly improves your AC’s efficiency. An AC professional willcheck and clean the condenser coil, inspect the blower motor and fan blades, amongst other things.Did your AC barely survive last summer? - Replace your air filter. This is something that should be done every 1 – 3 months. A clean air filter improves air flow, reduces allergens and can help your system run more efficiently.
- Add caulk or weatherstripping to leaky doors and windows to keep hot air outside. According to the Department of Energy, it can save you up to 15% on cooling.
