Evergy Energy Tip – September

Keep Your Air Conditioning Working Smoothly

We’re used to hot summers – and even falls – in the Midwest, but your air conditioner might be struggling to keep up. Easy routine maintenance can keep your system running as efficiently and effectively as it can. Here are some tips to keep your AC running smoothly, and your home comfortable.

  • Replace or clean your air conditioner filter every 1 – 3 months. Dirty filters reduce airflow, and your system won’t be as efficient over time. Keeping it clean will also reduce allergens.
  • Clean out leaves, dirt and debris from your outdoor air conditioner to maintain optimal airflow.
  • Trim plants back at least two feet from the unit. Your air conditioner will work better if it has plenty of room to breathe.
  • Check for leaks if you have a window air conditioner. Inspect the seals around your unit to make sure hot air isn’t getting into the room and cold air isn’t escaping.
  • Get an annual AC tune up. Regular maintenance significantly improves your air conditioning’s efficiency and can add years to its lifespan. An AC professional will check and clean the condenser coil, check refrigerant levels and more.

If your air conditioner is struggling to keep up with the summer heat, it might be time for a repair or a replacement. If you are an Evergy customer, find out how our heating and cooling rebate can save you up to $1,000 on a new energy-efficient system.
