Self-Supported Municipal Improvement District

A Self-Supported Municipal Improvement District (SSMID) is Kansas is a taxing mechanism created by a city under the Self-Supported Municipal Improvement District Act (K.S.A. 12-1794) in 1982 to fund specific public and private improvements and services within a defined, commercially or industrially zoned, and contiguous area. These districts are financed by additional, self-imposed property taxes on businesses within the district, which are collected and used to provide enhanced services like sanitation, security, maintenance, or community development programs, ultimately aiming to improve the district.
